non-chavvy heater washer jets

Featured Replies

Is it possibly to buy aftermarket heated fan-spray washer jets for the Octy? Even though I have a windscreen wash solution mixture that should be fine for the current temperature something went wrong this morning! The car lives in a garage overnight and was fine for the first 45 miles of my journey, and then one of the jets (passenger side) failed - I am guessing it froze up.

Thanks,

Matt

IIRC the L&K's have heated nozzles (or at least it is an option) obviously you will also need the wiring loom for them as well, i imagine it will not be cheap to retro fit?

Can anyone with an L&K confirm that?

Is there a condition for when heating it applied, or are they on all the time?

I think they're usually PTC, so they don't heat if they're already warm.

I need and want some of these!

Confirmation/info and part number please peeps.

I agree. Sounds like wiring them in should be pretty easy if they are PTC.... I want some too :-)

The 'heated spraying jet' is part No. 6Y0 955 986 (x2 needed), i can't find a wiring loom yet though.

I assume the wiring loom in a simple fashion might just be a couple of wires soldered on (crude), and one of those earthed and the other attached to a +ve ignition feed?

Just phoned my local dealer and they are quoting 9.35+vat, but they don't have any in stock (Loders Skoda, Dorchester)

The bloke from the parts department seemed to think they might need a larger hole - would they fit into a standard Octy scuttle panel cover? Not sure I want to shell out £20 on some parts might too physically large to fit :-(

Just buy one then!! :giggle:

They have to order them in, so if they are ordering one, they might as well get a pair. I have phoned them to find out if they can get them in, and I can view them (not committed to buy) to decide if they are going to fit or not.... However this needs to be sorted today if I want to stand a chance of getting them before Christmas....

After that I would then either need to source a couple of suitable connectors or just solder directly into the units.

these sound good keep us updated soon as u get them and if they fit, i hate motorway driving and the washer dont work in this weather, and culd u wire them to the heated mirrors or heated rear screen so they work when iether of them are on just an idea as the heated bits will be the same so u can branch of the live and earth to the bodywork

You could always heat the washer fluid by wrapping a coil of screen washer tubing around one of the coolant hoses and splicing it into the existing tubing so that you have warm water coming out of the jets rather than just heating the jets themselves.

I did this on my old Mk2 GTI and it worked quite well.

Matt,

The MK I Octy Elegance has heated fan jets as standard (My 03 did). IIRC they operate with either the rear screen or the heated mirrors.

As such you should already have them.

If you have a look at yours then I'm guessing you should find some wiring to them.

Another option is to run the pipe from the tank to the jets around a coolant hose, such that once the engine is up to temperature, you get some level of warmth in the water.

My 2001 Octy Elegance (post -face lift) does not have the heated fan jets - it just has the fluid pipe going to them.... however if the '03 model did, then hopefully they will just fit and I'll need to make up some wiring. I guess I won't be doing any of this till next year though as my local dealer can't get any stock in.

I always did that on my cars too, but have not

needed to do it for years :)

I assumed the problem the car has was the jets freezing up, rather the solution in the pipe getting cold, as the jet will be exposed to the coldest weather conditions. Therefore if you went any length of time without using the washer jets then they would freeze over again? Once again I was about 40 miles into my journey and they froze up, although I had used them earlier on in the journey a few times. Reported outside temp was only -5.5. I can't remember how strong the level concentration of screen wash fluid is in the car at the moment, but I would expect even a summer mixture to handle -5.5, as iirc the stuff claims to be fine at -40 deg C if used without dilution.

Just found this link on a German site, so I used the Google translator jobbie:

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=de&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.octavia-forum.de%2Fforum%2Fviewtopic.php%3Ff%3D4%26t%3D36508%26p%3D521918%26hilit%3D6Y0%2B955%2B986%26sid%3Dde5cdfe9d3f65079d17ed651d98bf956%23p521918

Essentially it suggests using fuse 17, although I might be tempted to see if I can find a broken taxi which had the taxi kit fitted, as that would give me the additional button on the center console (don't have heated seats)
