Wipers frozen to screen & now bent!

Featured Replies

I did something very stupid this morning & tried to wipe my screen without fully de-icing first.

The n/s wiper moved ok but the o/s juddered, moved about 1/4 of it's arc & then back again. It ended up firmly jammed against the passenger wiper.

Anyone had this before? Which piece gave? I'm guessing it's either bent the linkage or the arm has jumped on the spindle. Off to have a look now.

Doh!

post whats gone and i'll let you know how much its going to cost

Could be anything gone here, so unable to say untill you look. I thought I broke my rear today too, tried to lift the frozen blade off the glass and the blade unit stayed to the glass and the main arm lifted. oops. found its a clip on wiper.

I suspect all thats happened is that particular arm has come off its spline drive. Lift the cover, undo the nut and reseat the wiper in the correct position and all should be well again.

Hope the soft spline not rubbed out too much, did the same years ago and totaly striped it. I botched it back on with 2 straightened staples put either side and the arm forced on. never moved again.

Panic over!

I have removed the wipers, lifted the plastic cover & checked the linkage & all looks OK.

The driver's side wiper crank has quite fine threads & it looks like it's designed to slip should some simpleton try to run the wipers when they're stuck to the screen.

I have repositioned the wiper arm & it all seems to be working fine now.

Thanks for your replies.

Try shifting them off those splines when you want too.

They are a pig to shift normally lol
