Bluetooth HT-2 Alternative

Featured Replies

I am currently the owner of #74 Octavia VRS LE, CR - which has given me great joy - I also lent it to Superchips to finish their Bluefin for this management system / engine, so got a nice tune up :)

Since the LE's couldn't have any factory fitted extra's, I had rear bumper beepers and a phone kit retrofitted.

From talking to a few people back in March, I plumped for the Premium, HT-2 kit, which has work fine with my blackberries and is nicely integrated w= ith the 'Phone' button on the RCD 510 'Bolero' unit. However, I am now wo= ndering if I should have gone for something else, especially now that the 'standard' phone kits seem to integrate with the Maxidot and the RCD also - is this the case ?

The issue with the HT-2 is that, since all seems to be able to do is steal= the identity of your mobile phone, using SAP, your phone then crippled, a= nd can't be used for anything else. In my case, I would have liked to be = able to check emails and use the data service for browsing, when stationary.

The HT-2 also seems fail when using A2DP, although devices can see the car= , none can connect or use the audio gateway (At least not with password, 1234 or 0000) - besides the RCD manual says nat to BT audio with premium kit.

In an Ideal world, I would like the same dialing / CLI / phone book access from the Bolero, BUT ALSO, be able to have my TomTom use the phone's data connection for traffic (and possibly) the car's hifi gateway for voice - if not, being able to use other bluetooth things for audio would be nice...

So, my question is, would I be more satisfied with a 'standard' or alternative phone kit, so the car is simply a normal hands free service and other peripherals can still access BT services on the phone... I can't find any technical data on the HT-2 except that is should be able to behave normally, with a firmware / settings tweak, since it is registered with a heap of 'normal' non-SAP BT profiles...

What are your thoughts on this ?

Cheers, and seasons greeting,

Z
