1.6CR DPF and cambelt life

Featured Replies

Just been reading on the Superb forum that the DPF (which cost at least around £400 - £500 for the part) has a maximum life of around 80,000 miles and also requires 4 litres of additive at £37 / litre all of which can only be changed / filled by a dealer.

Does anyone know for sure (preferably a VAG techie) if the DPF fitted on the 1.6CR has a similar limited life span and whether it uses this mystery additive (urea?).

Also I believe that the 1.6CR is still a cambelt design :S . Whats the service interval for this? Probably a £400-£500 job.

Because of doing 20k per year I want to buy a 1.6CR model but if its going to cost £1000+ in DPF/cambelt costs over 80,000 miles then I might as well go for the cheaper 1.4Tsi petrol. The 1.4Tsi may be much easier to service DIY long term.
