fabia .whistle noise

Featured Replies

I have a fabia tdi 2005 that makes a whistling noise from the near side when i go up hill or come across any gradient,

my car has been back to my dealer to no avail, can any body give me any advice to what this noise may be?

I may be wrong, but isnt it the turbo spooling up?

stephen

I believe you might be right stephen

As the car is climbing a hill it would make sense assuming you accelerate up the hill then the turbo would kick in.

Mine whistles at idle, I wouldnt worry about it

The whistle at idle will be the auxiliary air pump; the turbo won't make any noise until it kicks in at around 1900 rpm...

Out of interest, what does the Aux Air Pump do?

It also has some emissions thing going on when it's cold...

Diesels dont have Aux Air Pumps..

If it's whistling on idle chances are your EGR has been turned down within the map or removal pipe. Whilsling is a resonant noise from drawing slightly more air through the turbo at idle without EGR.

Back to topic though, could be a slight boost leak at intercooler connector?

Kev

mine whistles around 2500k but it always has and i oput it down to the turbo, as it comes on and dies down the higher you rev! or somthing like that! I am sure someone will correct me.

If it is a boost leak around the intercooler conecters check for oil around them! or any excess oil.

Fair enough about diesels not having an aux air pump - I guess Jabba would know! Whistling with an open throttle is definitely the turbo, but it's fairly widely reported on here that vRSes (don't know about other Fabias) whistle at idle when it's cold, whether modified or not...

Mine whistles at idle and i'm pretty sure it is standard.

I like the whistling noises though.

It only does it for a few seconds then stops.

All turbo'd cars whistle (at least a bit) when the turbo kicks in but obviously we all know that.

Depends on how loud the noise is I suppose.

My VRS whistled when I bought it (2000miles old). When it had its second service at an independant garage they diagnosed a split seal in the turbo pipe. Could be that?

Maybe it is non-standard....the previous owner may have fitted one of these...
