hi am taking my car to a garage thursday so they can put the temperature switch in ...the man who is doing it said he will do a vag check to see

if the readings off the ttemp switch match the ecu ..to see if the car is reading right.....is he taking sh.t? also he said that senor can be my prob leading

Hi There,

As you don't state what your overall running problem is apart from a suspect Temp switch. How did you arrive at that as being the fault?

Was VAGCOM used to determine the ECU errors.

A temp sensor problem will cause bad running especially from cold starting, and will also throw up a error code that VAGCOM can read, so the mechanic is probably referring to checking for ECU faults and can also check temp settings to determine cause of the problem so sounds on the right track. It is true that the temp sensor can throw up other faults, however your ECU may have a number of faults previously recorded that may of already been fixed, so the mechanic should clear those first and then re run your car to determine which faults are still present.
