Any body have an idea why DSG costs SO much more here in Ireland than it does in the UK

Model - Superb Elegance 170CR Manual [i]-UK £23,590[/i] [/b]- Ireland €32,300

Model - Superb Elegance 170CR DSG [u]-UK £24,870 - Ireland €35,560[/u]

Cost Of DSG £1,280 UK and €3,260 Ireland

At the moment on xe.com £1,280 = €1,447,and maybe there is SOME extra tax on an auto box here, but come on, it cant £1621 extra. So Skoda must be making quite a nice profit off of every DSG car it sells here :(

Hi there,its because the dsg box is slightly less economical than the manual gearbox putting the dsg version of the car above the !55 g threshold of that tax band,in effect costing both more to road tax and a higher vrt rate

I dont care what tax threshold it goes into, it will not add £1600 to the price of the car over and above the price of the DSG in the UK

The point Gareth is making is when the DSG model sneaks into the higher tax (VRT) band it effects the total price of the car by 4% ( I think ) this is over and above the actual extra cost of the DSG box itself. Its not fair I know but when VAG get the dry DSG sorted for the more powerfull models it should drop the 170CR back into the 20% tax bracket and the price between manual and DSG should be similar to the UK.

Don’t forget that the showers of **** that govern us will change the laws in a few years, as they have changed the buzz words. It’s not ‘Global Warming’ now, it’s ‘Climate Change.’

Next thing is they will tax you on low emissions, as we will need more CO2 to stop the planet cooling. Mark my words.
