Standard fabia front speakers - with crossovers?

Featured Replies

See some components speakers that you can buy as individual parts, woofers, tweeters, x-overs separately... if you were to do this, could you just get the woofers in 16.5cm with spacer rings, and just whack them in place of the standard 13cm units and away you go?

The tweeters on the Furby sound ok to me, and seems like a lot of hassle to chage them in the standard locations. I wouldn't put them anywhere else as I like my stereo to stay hidden from the chavs and pikeys.

Cheers

As soon as you increase the volume a bit (which you will do once you have better woofers) the tweeters wont last long, ive allready popped one of mine, then they sound terrible.

So... I have a good set of 16.5cm co-ax's sitting around... with about 100w RMS power handling... I'm resisting the urge to fit them whilst running the standard HU, think the 9w RMS that kicks out would probably sound a bit pony, but if I want to maintain the standard appearance, better to just bung these in?

The problem is that the HU really is the limiting factor in the setup. I swapped mine out for a Kenwood MP6090R and left the standard speakers in and the sound difference was unbelievable.

Now awaiting delivery of a 77mp.

Am thinking of updating the HU at some point, probably for an alpine 9827 or pioneer 3600 single CD (don't want to spend silly money) but I'm pretty confident the standard speakers won't last long once I do that, plus I'll have to have the door cards off and get at the doors to sound-deaden them anyway, so might as well stick the speakers in while I'm at it.

A shameless plug here, but have a read of my posts. This one links to the relevant how-tos :)

Cheers for that. I've read that the maximum speaker depth is 65mm or thereabouts. The 6.5" co-axs I would like to fit are 63mm deep. Talk about pushing it! Will these fit with the plastic spacer rings that can be store bought, or would I need to make them myself out of MDF?

Cheers
