Running like a pig....

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm getting to the end of my tether with my poor Octy mk1 Vrs, the problem is with cold starts! when you start it after its been standing for a few hours it run like a bag of sh**e.

I start the car, leave it to idle for a couple of mins but as soon as i try to drive off it splutters and starts missfiring as if it only ony 1/2 cylinders, it becomes undriveable, i then have to pull over keep the revs up and slip the clutch to pull away, once its warmed up it seems to be ok??

Ive done the secondary pump mod, put a new forge split r dv on, replace 2 of the turbo hoses, new diverter valve, new thermostat, cleaned the throttle body, and yesterday replaced the maf, all the parts have been new genuine vw parts.

The only thing i can think of next is replacing the throttle body, maybe the auto choke is playing up??

I work at a motorcycle main dealers and i don't recall any bikes having this many problems.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Sorry to here all the problems you are having with your VRS - where are you based and maybe someone on here may be able to offer some diagnostics help or have you already had it on VAG-COM? In which case have you searched the error codes on here?

I live in Wirral (Merseyside), i've had it hooked up with a snap-on diagnostic machine but not a VAG-COM, should of just spent then money on that in the first place, a gallon of petrol and box of matches might sort it out :-)

Remove the splitr fit normal recirc d/v and all will probably be well

P.S when i fitted the forge split-r i didn't do any setting up i just fitted it, is the standard setting ok or will i have to set it up? the car is standard and i don't seem to have any problems with boost.

I'm voting for the temp sender too, either the air temp of coolant temp one.

Maybe O2 precat sensor is bad? Heating circuit is bad and doesn`t heat up the lambda sonda at spec value, maybe?

Any ides of the part numbers? i've replaced the water temp (green plug one) that sit to the right hand side of the engine.

Part number for the air temp sender would be greatly appreciated

Fitted the new air temp sender yesterday and the car started and turned over as it should

Fingers crossed it stays like that.

Thanks guys

Nice one! That's one of the first things I changed on mine when the running was lumpy at start.

Think it might have been me that put the part number and price in that thread!

Good luck with it
