Which Oil?

Featured Replies

Just had the oil changed in my 2008 1.9 PD Tdi Octavia with its first 12month service.

The original supplier new to me had reset the service interval it appears from variable to fixed. (to get more services in and more money for them??)

The dealer that I have just had the car serviced by has put in 5w30 longlife oil . I thought that it should have been 5w40 as it is on on a fixed service.

What oil should be used in my car?

Its all very confusing.

It won't be a problem having 5W/30 LL (507 spec) oil in your car on fixed intervals. You could get away with the (chepaer) lower spec 5W/40 on fixed, but it will be fine with LL. Don't worry about it.

Many thanks for the reassurance.

You have to use the VW507.00 spec, 5w30 oil if the car has a DPF anyway.

If your car has a DPF you need it and if not you're fine anyway.
