After a bit of random fiddling I managed to kill the annoying 'about:linux-splash' page that loads at startup (at least for me, ver 4.0.202.2):

add your preferred start page to the start command, e.g.

google-chrome about:blank

or

google-chrome http://briskoda.net/forums
