Will a decat throw any codes up?

Featured Replies

its for track before you legal boffins pop up, was just wondering, anyone whos fitted one does it throw any codes/ management lights up?

YUP id do!

youll need to get it VAG COM'd out somehow.

yes it can but can be removed by the map...

p.s doesnt matter if its road or track your allowed to do it just means mot time you need to put a cat on or know the right person ;)

righto so i can get it removed when its mapped, it's not gonna throw into limp mode or anything in the time being is it? just literally throw a light on, i can live with a light till its mapped.

shouldnt do mate, should be fine there.

No limp mode or anything just the CEL.

The only worry I had is that it might mask a more serious fault as the light is already on so I wouldn't leave it too long.

There are gadgets you can get to space the second 02 sensor away a bit to change the reading and fool the ECU:

I bought one then ended up getting the CEL mapped out in my Shark remap instead so I have it sitting in a drawer!

Yep just a spacer - but it's at a 90 degree angle as there's not that much room between the exhaust and body.

Of course if you're going custom you can mount it at an angle anyway and space it :)

cheers rob. another thing, with a decat is it likely the car will run leaner? because it wont be a month or two till its mapped properly with the other goodies on

id of thought it would run how the map is mate, just it will get rid of it faster and spool up a tad faster.

but isnt there a pre and post lambda? so with decat its going to detect more fuel and make it leaner?

The post cat lambda is only measuring the efficiency of the cat, so that won't effect the mixture.

I had problems with my heavily modded 4x4 MK1 when driving very slowly for a long period of time the light would come on, disconecting the battery for about 20 mins cleared it but you can now buy code readers / deleters on E-bay for £50. I use one on the zed which is fully decated as it throws a hick if left ticking over for ages. This will get you through until its mapped if you have problems but hopefully a properly built exhaust with the offset & a decent map will see you trouble free. As others have said I wouldnt drive round with the light on as it may mask other problems & if it keeps on coming on you dont have a happy car so will need the map asap. Dont be tempted to rag it before its mapped either, if its running lean it will run hotter
