Temp Problem

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I've had a search but not sure if this is right, if anyone could answer I'll give you a chocolate biscuit.

The temp has suddenly stopped reaching 90, it's only getting to 70 apart from when in traffic. Then as soon as you start to move it'll go back down again, is it the temp sensor? More importantly is it this one? - http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Skoda_Octavia_1.8_2002/p/Car-Parts/Cooling-and-Heating/Cooling/Switch-and-Sensors/?460441610&1&6da6723ef339ff10dff4c72c2c8787b1cd41a5e0&TMPS

Also the MPG has suddenly got really really bad! The computer says it's on 25-30 but it's using loads more fuel than usual.

Thanks

Nick

That's the correct part, but the symptoms sound more like your thermostat's stuck open. Either way, if the ECU thinks the engine's too cold because of a duff sensor, or if the engine actually is too cold because of a knackered thermostat, then your MPG will suffer...

Thanks ap0gee, so what one of these would be the one to get? - http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Skoda_Octavia_1.8_2002/p/Car-Parts/Cooling-and-Heating/Cooling/Thermostats

As they are only cheap i might get both!

...if you expand 'notes', it shows what engine codes the parts are for - you can then cross-reference that against you car. :)

Zero i will lay money on it being the thermostat as i had the same symptoms as you , i changed the sender first but has to change the thermostat to cure the problem .

Its not a nice job and i would be amazed if you manage to change it without breaking the dipstick tube.

Update just ordered the dipstick tube which is £3.42

here is the link that shows how to change it
