Damp CD Boot changer?

Featured Replies

On my Golf the CD Autochanger (same type) was sat up on top of the wheel arch and I'm pretty sure not a speck of damp came near it. However on my Octavia I was getting the following error readout on the OEM headunit: MECHANIC so I had a look at the bootchanger and the whole unit was very wet, cold and from the bottom of the unit felt like water had gone all over it.Where is it coming from and how can I prevent it? Has anyone else discovered this?

Its an estate by the way.

Check the washer pipe behind the trim above the autochanger, you will probably find that there is a joint in the pipe which is partially disconnected (assuming that this is more or less the same as in the hatchback).

Aha, yes will have a look.It was swimming!!

See if the water smells of screenwash too.....

My estate had a temporary leak - I think caused when the washer jet on the rear froze up.... the joint near to the CD changer put up the least resistance and pi$$ed on my Haynes book of lies :giggle:

actually mr haynes will be guiding me this weekend with my front wheel bearings... so I shall decide later if I like him, or hate him!

You'll be able to give the job a "skinned knuckle" rating when you finish

It should be dry, but assuming the water's not the problem with the stacker, most "surface" and "mechanic" faults seem to be caused by hitting the "wrong type of bump" whilst it's changing discs. The remedy tends to be to switch off and remove keys, remove the magazine, reseat the discs, then replace the mag.
