Brake bleeding order

Featured Replies

I have always used furthest wheel from m/c then work towards closest...

Apart from, I remember doing a SEAT where on elsawin VAG specified a different order (front then rear) because of something to do with the ABS system.

Anybody know about the octavia?

I always thought the same as you...

This might help:

Bleeding Brake System

Special tools and workshop equipment required

t Brake filling and bleeding device, e.g. - VAS 5234- or -ROMESS S15-

NoteIf one chamber of the brake fluid reservoir has run completely dry (e.g. leakage in the brake system) first of all a pre-bleeding of the brake system must be perfomed.

Bleeding (of air)

– Connect the brake filling and bleeding device.

Bleeding sequence:

1 - Bleed together and simultaneously the front left and front right brake caliper

2 - Bleed together and simultaneously the rear left and rear right brake caliper

– Leave the bleeder valves on the plugged-on hoses of the bleeder bottle open for as long as is takes until the bubble-free brake fluid flows out.

Then bleed the hydraulic unit once again via the function “Basic setting” at the diagnostic, measuring and information system-VAS 5051 -.

Initiate the basic setting (for bleeding the brake system):

– After this, the brake system must be bled normally.

Bleeding (normal):

Observe the work procedure for bleeding the brake system.

– Connect the brake filling and bleeding device.

– Open the bleeder valves in the prescribed sequence and bleed the brake caliper.

1 - Front left brake caliper

2 - Front right brake caliper

3 - Rear left brake caliper

4 - Rear right brake caliper

Use a suitable bleeder hose. It must sit tightly on the bleeder screw so that no air can find its way into the brake system.

– Leave the bleeder valve of a brake caliper on the plugged-on hose of the bleeder bottle open for as long as is takes until the bubble-free brake fluid flows out.

After-bleeding

The assistance of a 2nd mechanic is required:

– Press down the brake pedal strongly and hold it there.

– Open bleeder valve at brake caliper.

– Push the brake pedal down to the stop.

– Close the bleeder screw if brake pedal slightly depressed.

– Let the brake pedal go slowly.

This bleeding procedure must be carried out 5 times for each brake caliper.

Bleeding sequence:

1 - Front left brake caliper

2 - Front right brake caliper

3 - Rear left brake caliper

4 - Rear right brake caliper

After bleeding perform a test drive. While doing so perform at least one ABS adjustment!
