It was all going so well, then ............................

Featured Replies

After the weekends maintanance of the thermosstat and a TB clean every thing was running lovely

In fact those two jobs made me realise how well the engine runs for 100k, it was all silky smooth again.

Left for work this morning got about half way there and it was purring, turned right as normal, at which point I heard a droning noise.

Oh I thought sounds like a wheel bearing. next junction the steerings gone a little heavy, so I pulled over.

Power steering fluid gone !!!!

My quick rack has shat itself all over the passeger side lower arm and and alloy :( :(

Been home and picked up my "spare" rack (standard), should have the car back tommorow morning.

Such is life !!!!

Bugger sorry to hear that Dave :(

My quick racks still in the garage where it has been for about 18 months now, still waiting to be fitted! :dull:

God knows I got a spare anyway lol

It was all going so well and then... mine overheated tonight!

I'm sure it must be something to do with the work I did at the weekend

The odd thing is the Liquid Gauge showed it as being about 79-83 degrees yet the needle went into the red on the dash and it beeped at me so I quickly pulled over!!! :(

Doh .........

Hows the water level looking ???

You can really do it wrong though. I would think it would have shown before know really.

Water level seems to be alright - thats what I thought at first that I'd forgotten to let it go cold and then top it up again but the coolant level was between the min and max. Bottom rad hose was warm and the cooling fans kept cutting in and out. It's wierd coz it's been fine since I changed the stat and did a 40 mile round trip on Sunday afternoon and 36 mile round trip to work today no problems. Just took it out to put petrol in it and do the tyre pressures this evening, it was running really well then all of a sudden less than a mile from home on comes the warning light!!! Not happy :'(

Air lock somewhere?

can you get an air lock? its pumped round the system by and implore?

Gone to the garage today and they said its not actually overheating it just thinks it is :S

They've had it on a fault code reader and picked up this fault code:

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/16502/P0118/000280

The multiplug clip on top of the coolant temp sensor had broken so they reckon if that is loose it could be causing a short. They've ordered a new multiplug repair kit and a genuine VAG coolant temp sensor to replace the £7 internet one that was in there.

Should never have tried to do it meself

All fixed now, they have re-soldered the multiplug and replaced the crappy Febi Bilstein coolant temp sensor with a genuine VAG one (£28... ouch :( ) and car is running really well :)

Result.

Well it wasn't anything you did on the weekend so a job well done there.

I crapped when mine went pear shaped thinking I had broke something.

I though I had screwed the MAF on mine after working on the car over the weekend, but it turns out I hadn't put the TIP on the MAF properly so I was getting unmetered air causing it to run lean DOH!!!! Now i have fixed that I am getting bouncing boost AARRRGGGHHHH :S And just to round things off the drivers lock is now not working off the key either......... :(

Edit:

And I need a new tyre, drivers door mirror not working, driver front indicator fell apart. WHAT NEXT??????

SNAP

lol

same here,

running weird this morning when I took the missus to work, missfiring and stuttering. So when I got home I cleared all the codes to give it a chance to relearn after running so lean with the TIP disconected. over the course of the day it has settled down and seems to be over the worst of it So I will do some logs tomorrow and see :D

Edit: Can't spell :p
