Red (Immobiliser) Key?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am planning to buy a 2000 X registration Skoda Octavia 1.8 Auto Elegance & would be of great help if you could help me with this information:

  1. Does it come with 2 keys?
  2. Is it that one is for Immobiliser re-setting (RED key) & the other is for normal drive (BLACK key)?
  3. If I buy a car without RED key, is it possible for me to order one from the Skoda Dealer? If so, how much would it cost?

Thanks in advance for your support.

Regards,

Karthik

All the keys are the same, no need for a special red key with any VAG branded car.

Hi Mannyo,

Thanks a lot for the information.

Does it mean that we can sort-out immobiliser key problems with just one key that I would get? I was mis-led by few people that it would cost heavily to repair any key related ECU code issues if RED or Immobiliser re-set key is not available :(

Thanks again...your message has motivated me to buy the car :)

Regards,

Karthik

Hi Karthik,

In the US there are/were red and black keys for some VW cars. If you were using valet parking you would always use the black key.

What you do want to get is the key tag which has the 4-digit SKC.

Red keys are a Fix It Again Toni thing!

You should get the key tag, and 2 keys with built-in plips.

Just managed to get a quote for a spare key from local Skoda Dealer :

1 button - £47 + VAT + £25 Labour

2 button - £80 + VAT + £25 Labour

3 button - £120 + VAT + £25 Labour

Also, I was advised not to buy a used key, as it may not be possible to program it.

Hope this information is of help for someone
