EVAP Purge Valve (N80) can it be removed along with the charcoal canister?

Featured Replies

EVAP Purge Valve (N80) is on the top of the Charcoal filter. on the Left side of the engine bay behind the Washer bottle.

can it be removed? what else needs to be done once its removed?

So if I understand correctly what it does is absorb fumes from the fuel tank into a charcoal filter then pump them into the intake to be burned once the engine is warmed up.

Referring back to my favourite diagram - evap system is in green:

There are a few on VWVortex who have removed it and most say it turns on a CEL.

The only advantage of removing it is to tidy up the engine bay a bit, correct?

If it's removed what happens to those fumes? Vented to atmosphere instead?

yeah thats the one in green.

yeah just cleans up the engine bay by the loks of it then.

i would guess the fumes would go out to atmosphere.

I've just been reading up on it on Seatcupra.net and most of them remove it then drop a vent tube down by the wheel arch.

Apparently you can't fool the ECU with the usual resistor so most have left the N80 electrically connected but tidied away out of sight.

so why do you think there is 2 pipes drawing the fumes away? 1 goes straight into the throttle body and the other goes all the way round to the intake.

do you reckon you cound lose 1 of them as the valve only opens occasionally?

I wondered exactly the same thing. One goes to the intake before the intercooler and one after. I have no idea why!

There must be a reson for it.

yep you can loose the one to the tip pipe and just run it to the throttle body this is done loads on the golf forums easy to do just remeber to leave one of the one way valves in

just did it the other way round. ive run the one to the tip. my theory went along the lines of it needed to be in a vacum as its taking away from the canister, so as the intake is always at a vacum, i went with that one. lol.

i would do it the other way as then you will be putting a bit of fuel vapour in the intake B):)
