BOV greasing + MAF failures

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I was wondering after greasing my forge DV. I noticed that there is also grease inside the bov on the piston. Is it posible that this grease is blown out and is blown through the MAF. I can imagine this could also damage the MAF. right?

any comments?

The MAF is before anything DV wise so theres no need to worry.

The only part that can cause MAF problems other than they are just naff is a dirty/ineffective air filter as that is before the MAF.

That's not quite true as the DV blows off the unwanted turbo pressure into the air trunking between the air filter and the MAF. A little grease on the DV shouldn't cause any problems, so long as it's not OTT. Over oiled after market filters are more likely to cause problems by oiling up the MAF and stop it working properly.

The MAF is quite easily cleaned if you have the right chemicals.

No it doesnt, the outlet for the DV is between the MAF and the inlet for the turbo, AFTER the MAF.

Ross, not quite true, I agree with Pugsy. When I had my MAF failure I checked the element, it had engine oil on it. There are reports on the US board of a light spray of oil being sent the wrong way up the pipe toward the MAF.

Ok that may be possible, you do get air pulses back though the system, that is why VAG changed from the old hot wire type MAF to the newer (less reliable) hot film type MAF's.

But it dont alter the fact the the return for the DV comes in after the MAF and not betwwen the MAF and the filter (would be a little hard as the MAF bolts onto the filter box).

And the original question was do you think that greasing the DV would effectt he MAF, and I would say as long as you dont go silly with the grease i can see it causing a problem, you only need a smear on the seals just to keep it moving.
