Felicia cutting out

Featured Replies

I have a 1.6 felicia that is cutting out while driving. It's quite a sudden jolt when it happens. If i then lift my foot off the throttle and put it back down again it springs back into life. mainly happens going uphill but sometimes on the flat... I have changed the plugs, the leads, the distributer cap and rotor arm... If i let it idle for a couple of minutes after starting it seems to run ok.. but if i stop for any reason and restart it happens all over again... It happens when it is cold and when it is up to temperature... When it happens i can put my foot on and off the clutch pedal (like when bump starting) and nothing happens it only springs back to life when i put my foot back on the accelerator........ it's driving me nuts.....and the wife refuses to drive it....any help would be greatly appreciated...

When was the fuel filter last changed? Also, does it ever seem to be running out of power at high throttle/revs?

sounds like a dodgy throttle body, probably the idle switch is sticky, not much you can do about it other than finding a replacement one from a scrapper.... it's an expensive item to buy new too..

the throttle body off a 1.6 polo is the same part too so at least you should be able to find one fairly easily

Haven't changed the fuel filter in the 18 months i've had it.. so maybe i'll try that first. ....................as i haven't done that, I ought to do it anyway ...

I have just driven it up the hill to work which is about 3 miles long and it was cutting out at regular intervals, pretty much every 4 seconds... settled down on the flat only cut out once...

It is sounding a bit like a fuel feed/flow problem.

Well I’ve got a new fuel filter which I am going to fit but the more I think about it the more I think it’s going to be something like teflontom suggested. I keep thinking that if it was fuel starvation like a filter or pump then it would splutter before cutting out.. but this is a violent shut off.. I'm still confused though because if I let it idle for a couple of minutes before driving off it runs sweet.

But if I don’t it keeps doing this… I don’t understand the mechanics of it.

Does something settle if I let it idle which stops it happening… Just want to get my head around it before I commit to get a throttle body as your right they aren’t cheap… won’t be getting a new one that’s for sure…

My wife refused to drive my Felicia too, Shadrach. She was probably right.

A car that cuts out on you regularly is to my mind a dangerous one. The best thing I did with mine was to get shot of it. It had a great spec and when it was behaving it was lovely to drive. Tackling those little niggles that seem to plague smooth running can really mount up cost wise. Try that new set of leads and throttle body , the new sensors and thermostat, the ecu computer check etc etc and you will really rack up the bills. I reckon they are cars for those who love to tinker.

personally i would just grab a throttle body off a scrapper, dont pay more than about £20-£30 for it.....

although i would recommend finding somebody local to you who has access to vag-com to do a diagnostics check first

Thanks Teflon Tom Helpful to know what price I should pay..... Cars been brill up to now so £20 - £30 is worth a try....

I've never gone on chucking money at a car that's why I asked the question here if it has to go it will go.

I got this one 3 years ago when i ditched a Vauxhall which again had been brilliant for years but started to cost niggling amounts every MOT..

I'll check out some scrappers around here... bound to find a polo in one of them... And I'll ask around if any of the lads knows anyone with a Vag -com.

Thanks again

Hi

I have exactly the same problem with my felicia 1.6. Did you find the reason to the fault?
