Octavia rear crash bar

Featured Replies

My Octy has a Witter towbar fitted. I've removed most of it, but the two main supports still drop down from the bumper and are presumably attached to a full width crash bar which replaced the stock item (so the online fitting instructions lead me to believe).

A mate has a pristine mkiv Golf crash bar from his R-reg 110tdi GT when he fitted a towbar - would this be a suitable replacement? He seems to think they're not really formed to any shape, but I am slightly wary as mine is an Octy and also an estate.

Any thoughts? Cheers. :)

Octavia crash pad has a 1U part number and must be unique to our cars, so I don't think that one for a Golf will fit.

I have a rear crashbar from my 2001 Estate in my garage, which your welcome to have - I fitted a towbar :-)

Or I can measure/take pictures if that helps....

Just remembered, when I fitted mine, I moved some masking tape which covered some holes down the side (heading towards the rear wheel arches), as the stock crash bar just mounts straight onto the back of the car, and not with arms down both sides.

Would you mind just taking a photo please? My mate has a Golf one lying about doing nowt (he doesn't even have the car anymore) so I suppose it's worth seeing if it's the same.

If not, I'd be interested in your crash bar.

just back from a wedding. Have taken pictures and measurements. Will post up the details in the morning.

A few pictures and measurements can be found here:

shows how the "arms" for the new tow-crashbar fit. Previously the holes in which those arms slot down were taped off. The mounting bolts (circled in red), 3 per side were spot welded on, and one of mine actually fell off when I was nipping the old nut back onto it - how cr@p is that?! :S
