Wheels and Tyres on my vRS

Featured Replies

I am going to keep the standard Spiders as I really like them.

I need 3 new tyres as there really low and the 4th is some budget tyre the dealer I bought the car off has fitted for the MOT, I have done a few searches on here and I know I can change the standard 205/50/17 tyres for 225/45/17 with the standard wheels which is what I think I am going to do so I will need 4 tyres but that is still the same price as 3 of the 205/50/17's lol

As for the wheels I am planning on getting them refurbished as they are a bit scratched and some of them have a few bubble patches appearing, I am then going to get some new centre caps. There is a small local company near me that have a very good reputation amongst some of my friends and are really reasonably priced. The only problem is because it’s a small company and they do not have anywhere to store cars I would need to drop just the wheels off to them and would need another set for a week or so for the car.

My question is what wheels/sizes can I buy as a really really cheap set that will clear the vRS callipers? I plan to buy them use them for a week or so and then sell them again when I get my wheels back! Lol

Thanks

Anything from 16" off anything on the mk4 Golf platform. Wheels under 16" will not clear the front brakes.

Cheapest wheels to find will probably the 6.5x16" ET42 5x100 steels. I know they came on new Beetles, and I expect plenty of mk4 Golfs and mk1 Octavias had them too. Search ebay or scrappies, but they are getting more rare recently.

I have a set for the same reason, and for winter tyres eventually.

These are them: http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-Golf_IV--1.8T/Wheels/OEM_Steel/ES1866558/

Thanks for that, ill have a look out.

Does anyone have any photo's of 225/45/17 on standard wheels please?

I have been looking at a few websites today and most of them seem to say that 225/45/17's need a 7.5J wheel, I thought the vRS Spiders were a 7J? I know lots of people fit them but do they look to wide for the wheels? One site says you can get a dome shape tyre and will go balder in the middle more quickly then the edges, does anyone suffer from this?

I run 225/45 tyres on standard wheels without any problems they have been on there for a about a year. No extra wear in the middle from what i can see..

Some makes of tyres will look wider how i have crap Federals which sit slightly wider then the Pirelli's on the back.
