Felicia Combi 1.3 LX - Annoying problem

Featured Replies

Hello Fellas :)

I'm having a constant problem with my Felicia.

She doesn't run smoothly, or, to be exact, she doesn't accelerate smoothly.

Everytime I push on the gas pedal, she sort of struggles (You can feel the vibrations, and the snag-drag moments). It doesn't matter if it's low gas or to the max.

And when I bring it in neutral - she tries to almost completely choke - but it doesn't happen (she doesn't cut out). When I push the gas pedal in neutral, she goes - cough, cough and then she starts to accelerate.

I'm gonna be taking her to the "doctor", but wanted to hear Your opinions about this.

Last year I had the same trouble, and the service guy assured me that it was one of the cables for the plugs. He also put GM twin-spark plugs.

Do You think this is the problem again, or the trouble is inside the motor itself?

The best description is that she's skipping a beat - runs smoothly, then suddenly drags for a second, then runs smoothly, then drags again...

The cables haven't been changed at all, and the car has passed 90.000miles.

ANY advice is appreciated... I talked to the official Skoda service here - and they have no idea what is the trouble. And honestly, I hate to leave the car to be used as an exercise tool... :(

Thank You

Things like this usually point to things like spark plugs and HT leads. Since the spark plugs have been changed then that rules those out. I would try changing all the spark plug leads as a set and see where that gets you.

Also have the valve clearances been checked lately? This can often have a big affect on the running of these engines.

I was having these problems many months ago and after chaning the spark plugs, HT leads, air filter, oil and oil filter and checking the valve clearances all was well!

Phil

It's not unknown for the insulation in spark plug leads to start breaking down, giving a misfire, inside ot a year or so. It's a very easy job to change them yourself too, just pull off one lead at both ends, replace it, and repeat 4 or 5 times depending on whether the car has an Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and 2 double-ended coils, or a coil and separate distributor.

Thanx a MILLION!!!

Went to the mechanic yesterday and change all the 5 spark plug cables - now it runs smooth like NEVER before...

Even on GAS (LPG) it has fantasticly smooth drive... And on petrol she's beyond comparison... :)
