MK1 Octy VRS advice please

Featured Replies

Hi guys would like to ask a few things.

I have an 03 plate Octy Vrs, but others I see have differing specs so would like some comments please

1. Others I see have rear wash/wipe - mine doesn't is this right? Was it an option? I actually prefer it without.

2. Mine has 16' OEM alloys again is this normal?

3. Has an odd little rattle drivers side back of engine that increases in speed then stops seems to be coming from some kind of valve, pls tell me its not serious.

Now for advice on remapping/tuning, can anyone recommend reliable, quality affordable tuners around the Ascot area

Exhausts.... would like a little more sound but not like the Nova/Saxo boys with 12" diameter rear pipes anyone recommend a beefier sounding back box/end pipe?

Thanks in advance

1. you could opt not to have it when the car was built

2. nope you should have 17 inch spiders on a 03 plate only very early pre 2001 cars had 16 inch i believe

3 you need a cat back system go on awesome gti doing a deal on blueflame £250 non resonated sounds brilliant

havent a clue about the noise and fault codes??

Is it an estate or hatch? The estate VRS's came with 16" Spiders throughout their lifetime.

If the rear washer is there but isn't working you may have a pipe popped off the back of the motor/washer in the boot, take the boot trim off to get to it and check.

And like Clive said Awesome are doing an offer at the moment, in fact a full system for the Octavia VRS is only £560 that's about £200 cheaper than it normally would be!

Thanks mate, but it is a hatch, guess someone bought a set of wheels too small at sometime, perhaps off fleabay! There is no rear wash at all but thanks for advice anyway, will 16" make much difference as it handles sweet, how about speedo being out?

Cheers, Paul

As long as the rolling radius is the same, i.e. larger wheels with a smaller profile tyre, then no problem.

1. Imports didn't, and you could maybe specify. I know Jay's car doesn't have one and his is an import. Are you located in the UK or ROI?

2. Your car should have 17" standard alloys. But maybe this points to it being an import again, as some countries spec smaller wheels, for rougher roads I guess. Or like you said, they changed the wheels a few times and wanted to put it back to standard.

3. Sounds like you could be talking about the charcoal canister, which is totally normal. You'll need to explain where it's coming from exactly to confirm. Get a photo up.

I'm sure you'll get more than enough tuning advice from everyone, and even more if you do a search. If you want to go faster and have more fun, sort out the suspension and brakes. It's where you'll increase the fun factor!

Thanks, i'm in the UK and have the original service book etc... with supplying dealer stamp, so guess someone changed wheels at sometime, and yes having been in my mates 05 plate mine in dramatically smoother over the rough stuff !

Ok let me describe where this ticking/rattle is coming from:

There is a black plastic container directly behind the washer bottle and in front of rad bottle it has 2 round pieces on top the front 1 has a pipe and what looks like a sensor attached to it, its made in Brazil by Sagem if that helps! this where the noise comes from intermittently. Is this what you think it is?

yes its the charcoal cannister its normal.
