Wanted: OEM Fabia MS402 tape deck (now FIXED Wooo!)

Featured Replies

Cheap as chips if possible please.

Would also be partially interested in a symphony oem CD player if the price was right.

I also assume both the above will plug into a fabia without worrying about codes?

No longer required! I managed to repair the old one! WOOOT!

(someone had ripped off the face and taken 3 ribbons with it and one was a right pain in the backside to get back in the right connector.....) Also, all the ISO blocks had been stuffed away so think it had an aftermarket radio in at some point.....

Good old auction purchases!

In my experience you will need the code for the MS402. Not sure if this differs for newer models/models with comfort module, or perhaps was just a fluke in my case.

Well, thankfully the busted radio was coded already, if it had a code at all? :dull:

Anyway - thanks to my rather delicate reinstertion of the ribbon ends (using a shakey hand and long nosed pliers.....) I do have a working radio now. Does feel a bit naff being just a tape deck / radio though :D

Its what Ive been used to for 5 years! Good sound quality for what it is , wish I could find an MS502 which has the ability to run an OEM CD changer.

I went from one of those (in a Fabia Comfort) to a later Fabia with Symphony CD player . The MS402 had way better sound quality for some reason.

Wish I could find an MS502 which has the ability to run an OEM CD changer.

They can can't they? I thought they were the step up from the MS402, which IIRC could.

You need to re-read the above statement. He was saying really, he wishes he could find an MS502 BECAUSE it can power an oem CD changer. :) not trying to find which does, because some do and some don't. :)

Edit: and my "fixed" comment may have been made too soon - yesterday the "source" started flicking between tape and radio really fast.... but after turning it off for a while, it came back normally. Something isn't right anyway - long term.

Ah, I see.:blush::wall:

Thanks.

How much is a reasonable amount for a symphony? ;) I have one lying around in my drawer I may be tempted to part with

Well, for this car, not going CD now.

But I would think if you were to advertise it for £80 off with the code, it might have some takers? :)

Do you have to get the codes from a dealer? Pretty sure that I don't have it :(

For all I know they might just plug into other fabias and just "work" - I really don't know :D

The code for mine was on a sticky label inside the service manual (not on a card). It's a 4 digit number and should be accompanied with a stereo serial number starting SKZ

hmmm strangeness... I have a sticker on the inside of the first page of the service manual, with engine code blah blah blah but no SKZ. Theres a 4 digit number, preceded with FSM but I doubt thats it!

I have a little plastic clip thing in with the log books etc... opening it up, theres a little sticker with rounded corners and a 4 digit code. above that on the same sticker is a code starting:

008SKZ... then a bunch of numbers. Thing is, thats a different code to the one actually stickered on the stereo? confused!
