Is ther any way of soldering a 3.5mm female jack plug lead onto the wiring loom of the symphony stereo in the vrs, so that you can plug your ipod into it .any advice welcome

Not onto the loom, but opening up the head unit it can be done by replacing one of the other "inputs", AM radio, FM radio, CD ... etc.

Is there not an aftermarket kit you can just plug and play that presents itself as a CD changer?

Any socket you fitted would have to be a double pole switched type,which disconnected the signal on the input ,when plugs were put in.

Owww! My ears :giggle: if doing it via a mechanical / dpdt switch then solder in some big (at least 1-5 megaohms) pulldown resistors for the coupling capacitors upstream to minimise nasty loud popping when switching, cheap and it really does work a treat :thumbup:
