unable to release the key after stopping engine

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have a very annoying problem since 2 hours ago. I can not extract the key from the ignition block..

my octavia is a 2007 tdi 1.9 dsg.. after I put the dsg lever in P position, I can safely stop engine, but the key can't be extracted..

any hint..? :-)

Don't know if this will help but try turning the car on again, unlocking the steering lock and turning it off. You should be able to extract the key and then apply the steering lock.

hi, thank you for your fast answer but.. it's not a problem of steering lock.. I've tried many times.. it's about 2 hours I'm turning on and off the car :-)

There is an interlock solenoid linked to the DSG box to stop you removing the key if you have not put the box in Park.

So it is likely that either the switch that senses the box is in Park is faulty or the solenoid in the ignition switch is faulty, and one or other is stopping you turning the key all the way into the 'remove' position

Suggest you try jiggling the DSG leaver while trying to turn the ignition key into its 'remove' position

Else its a trip to the stealers, unless you fancy removing the centre console and testing the Park switch - it might just be loose, or taking the switch covers off and checking the solenoid yourself

Hi

I already played with that solenoid (I had some problem last year with the dsg box in protection mode, so I know how to "touch" it)..

as for murphy's law, it happened on saturday afternoon... :-)

Hi,

I have seen an issue like this on a DSG VRS occty, the issue was that one of the fuses had blown inside the cabin.

I'll double check and let you know what one, but if its desperate, i'd say use a screwdriver to nip the fuse panel off on the drivers side and just go through the fuses (it was a smaller fuse, and 5amp, it was next to another 5amp which controlled the interior lights.)

Hope this helps!

thank you.. just tried... no way :'(

The solenoid is actuated bu steering column calculator, you need to locate the conector from solenoid, pul aut from steering wheel computer and power directly with 2 wires 12V positive and ground.

Is under stering column.
