130 degree oil temp aaahhhhhhhhh!

Featured Replies

Was on track today, hammering the car, and oil temp hit 130........Backed off obviously..........

Anyways, I may get an oil cooler, any reccomend any setups?

What's a safe oil temperature on track?

It's a Diesel Fabia VRS.

My setup would be ideal. Sandwich plate take off right above the oem water cooler and then you just need to find a place to stick a mocal cooler, and pipe from the sandwich plate to the cooler. Where I have put my cooler minimises the amount of oil pipework I actually needed. Whole setup was roughly £160 for all materials needed, then just serious time to make up a custom bracket to locate it where the side mounted intercooler used to sit,

130 degrees is HOT though. I don't think I have ever seen mine top about 115 to 120 on track use. I am hoping my new cooler keeps the oil below 100 degrees on track.

Why didn't you fancy the Castle Combe taster? :D

So:

. Sandwhich plate

. Oil cooler

. stainless pipework

That's it?

Where did you get your stuff from?

Apparently people use side mount intercooler as an oil cooler?

I didn't even see the thread on Combe :-D

I'm gonna address this oil heater situation before next track day though!

She performed ever so well though, so proud! Overtaking Lotus Elise, Intergra DC5 on the corner after hangar straight, was going to it around 80ish, over steer into it, to allow the back end to come round, fun times!

Also, does it make a differnece that my temp gauge is plumbed into the sump? I mean maybe it's not that hot in the engine?
