Felicia L&K what to do and is it true?

Featured Replies

Ok so here goes.

My Felicia L&K 1.3l 1996 has just died. mechanic thinks the timing chain slipped. now it won't start. i cnt afford to repair it soooooo.

1. do i scrap her? probably get very little if anything at all

2. try and sell her?

3. sell her as parts (not really got anywhere to keep her though.)

i'm really stuck for what to do as don't know if she's worth anything to anyone.

ALSO

i read an post on here. is it true that only 100 1.3 felicia L&Ks were made?

The L&K was indeed very limited in numbers, and I dont think there are many left. Sadly if the chain slipped yours may well need a new engine to get it going again.

Well guess i'm definitely not keeping her then so just to decide what to do with her. do you think they are sought after much?

the interior is in pretty good nick apart from a small cig burn on back seat.

I believe around 500 were made, how many are left on the road is another issue. Seems a bit of an odd scenario for a timing chain to jump, I'd have thought a sensor, e.g. the Hall sensor, much more likely to have packed up. I had one playing up on a Sierra years ago and when it wasn't working the car wouldn't start for love nor money.

ok thanks, there was a knocking sound the day before, then when i was driving the day after it suddenly lost power, knocking loudly, and sounded like i was driving at top revs in every gear but not picking up speed.

i'm wondering if it would be worth subscribing to freedom on here to sell it but as i'm short of cash don't want to pay it and then have no interest.

May seem like heresy but would probably be interested in some of the interior.

If the timing chain really slipped it might mean disaster (piston broken after hitting a valve). If you're lucky, damages are limited (e.g. burnt valve/valve seat, not impossible to fix). Even at the worst outcome, finding another engine at a good price shouldn't be hard and worth considering if all other parts are in good condition - it is a rare car.

Sounds exactly like the engine failure I had on Nelly! I think with mine it was crankshaft damage due to the previous owner running it dry of oil.

They are quite sort after among the skoda geeks on here. Get joined up to Freedom and advertise it for sale as a whole on here.

Someone very recently bought my broken L&K off me on here. They travelled all the up to York from Bournemouth to pick it up on a trailer.

if it only the chain thats slipped/broken then get a new one fitted and keep it, they dont damage anything at all usually and worst case will be bent pushrods

@philje123 out of interest how much did you get for nelly with being a non-runner? i have no idea what to ask as before i started reading through bits on here i thought of it as a cheap common car.

@rolo the interior is in pretty good nick, a small 1p sized fag burn on rear seat near to back of seat. i have put speakers in the rear doors though. had to cut a hole out to fit them. am leaving them in though. steering wheel, handbrake, and gear stick have had a bit of wear.

as for getting her repaired, i don't have the money to do it or i would cos i love the car, thats why i don't want to scrap her, id rather see her put to some use even if its getting stripped to use in something else.

i will let people know on here when i put it on freedom, if you know of anybody who might be interested that you regularly talk to then please feel free to pass the message on when i update here

Well the thing is she was a runner. Runs very well. the reason it was "broken" is that it failed its MOT on several areas including lots of rust!
