car alarm problem

Featured Replies

I stuck a post a few days back about losing my only set of keys and needing a new one from the dealer.

Basically the car is at home locked and I needed to buy the key, use the key to get into the car to tow it to the garage to get the key coded.

Now, I have the key, but I've hit a problem.

I opened the car, put the key into the ignition to remove the steering lock, and the alarm went off, probably because it didn't have the immobiliser code.

How do I get the car to the garage, towed, without the steering lock, without the alarm going off?

I'm assuming it's something as simple as disconnect the battery but I didn't want to do that without someone telling me first.

Thanks!

Hi, as far as I'm aware, modern alarm systems have a separate back up battery to the main car one just in case somebody without the correctly coded keys tries to do what you want to do, then it will set the alarm off, is there someone close to you who has VCDS, then I'm sure for a few bevvies they can set up the keys for you. Someone posted a similar thread to yours on the Fabia 1 discussion forum, it was on page 4 the last time I looked and was entitled "key programming" with a link to the fabia-vrs website. Hope this helps.

Like chaosdarknight said, you could find and disconnect the alarm speaker, which is probably buried behind the front bumper somewhere. As for the immobiliser issue, the method of getting the key programmed is in the thread in the Fabia 1 section I quoted earlier. shark_90 i.e. Ben at shark performance is very well clued up on these things so if anyone on here can help you for sure then he seems to be your man.
