Smooth idle followed by stall!

Featured Replies

Im hoping someone may have an idea on what I should do next, in the past i've always been pointed in the right direction.

My 02 Octavia VRS for some reason is having problems at idle, its fine being driven but when i come to a stop and the engine is at idle occassionally the engine will flutter (the rev counter needle visibly shakes) I can feel the engine stutter and then will return to a smooth idle.

However, once previoulsy this stutter caused the engine to stall and this morning, on one journey alone it stalled twice.

There is no management lights and I did scan and found the following intermittent fault

16825 - EVAP Emission Control Sys: Incorrect Flow

I have visually checked the lines etc and everything appears fine.

Would this fault really lead to the car stalling? I've read about people completely removing the evap system without any problems.

Any help is greatfully recieved and a beer awarded to the best response!

Cheers

Not sure about the fault code, but mine used too flutter slightly, a throttle body clean fixed it right up

I've now cleaned the throttle body, and replaced the last coil pack which is one only one i hadnt replaced whilst i own the car, fired her up and runs lovely and smooth................however, as soon as she warmed up after taking her round the block i pulled up outside my house and splutter followed by stall.

Incedently i have reset the dtc's and actually dissconnected the n80 valve, should this be throwing up an engine light by doing this? I have recchecked and currently not showing any codes but yet the engine has just stalled once again!

Is it going to be the old mechanics side of things rather than electronics purely, should i change the spark plugs?

That suggests to me its something to do with the charcoal canister near the washer bottle and the valve going into the top of it. Is the valve clicking as it should be?

Thanks,

Is that the N80 valve? Does it simply push into the top of the canister with a quarter turn?

If so it doesnt appear to make any noise whatsoever, and cant feel it vibrate as if doing anything, i've disconnected the plug with the engine running andf its not thrown up any lights, should it?

I'll have a play with that tomorrow, found a file which stipulates the resistance it should provide so will get the multimeter out.

Yeah it should be clicking and vibrating if you put your finger on it you can feel it. If not then I would suspect it's duff!
