Hi all,

Been having the well documented issues with central locking and elec windows so decided to have a look. Have taken off the drivers door card and now need to know how to detach the convenience unit

So I think I need to remove the yellow section and see if the connections are corroded? If so how do I remove it or do I need to remove the whole regulator? I can get the metal clasps off but there seems to be 3 clips on each side that are difficult especially on the back of the unit where i cannot get at them!

Thanks in advance!

Ok I managed to remove the connector and it looks brand new no corrosion or anything.

IS there anything else I should examine before putting the door card back on?

Symptoms are mainly that central locking (key not remote) on drivers door only 50% of the time operates all doors, the other 50% of the time it just controls the drivers door. Other than that once or twice I have come back to find the car with windows down.

Is that more likely to be the locking unit?

If the central locking is failing when using the key in the local (physical action) then I would think the problem was probably with a microswitch on the lockbarrel. Certainly the dropped windows would suggest the lock believe that it being held in the unlock position (as that causes the windows drop).

Ok well I've cleaned the connector anyway and put it all back together.

Got out, closed the door and locked/unlocked a couple of times. Then unlocked and key got stuck! The key in the lock has rotated about 90degrees anti clockwise and wont budge.

Ever heard of this before? Any suggestions other than brute force? Dont want to break the key as I have no spare.....

Ok I've managed to get the key out using force.

The lock is now really stiff and jerky and feels jammed. It has been a bit stiff for a while though :(

What is the story with getting a new lock? Would I then need new keys and new passenger side locks too?

Or, if the drivers side and passengers side locks are symmetrical could I just swap em over?

I don't have a lock on my passenger door (2001 TDi Elegance). My locks (drivers door & tailgate) sometimes get stiff due to lack of use and general dirty and grim getting into them, but I doubt that should be the case for your car if you regular use the locks.

I would try a bit of wd40 to lub the lock mechanism up and see how it fairs.
