Few kind of newbie questions

Featured Replies

OK,

First of all, my new VRS has LED lights in the interior door handles. They dim with the instrument dimmer switch. Are these standard or are these after market?

If they are after market how do i switch them off because they are a pain in the tits!!!!!!!!!!

Also when driving through the tyne tunnel i put the window down for a bit and all i could hear was loud squeeking coming from the suspension. The car has only done 33k miles. Any idea what this could be? I had planned on doing some kind of set up anyway.

Cheers for the help in advance! Oh, and i love the car

Stoo,

LED lights are not standard in the door handles.....they sound a little tacky tbh.

As for the noises it's probably the wishbone bushes squeeking under load. Look HERE for a link with more info, or possibly the drop links on the anti roll bar.

If it is a low mileage car still check to see whether the cam belt has been changed - especially if it's over 4 years old!!

Also, was there any kind of centre arm rest option from skoda? I could really do with one for the VRS

Just another thought the squeek could be the front radiator rattling, they are prone to the fixings breaking and causing a squeeky noise!!

It wasn't an option on the vRS, you can however get one through Skoda, I got mine 5-6 years ago in black leather to match, all in for about £60, it's prbably treble that now though..........

my top mounts have just started squeakin even tho they are brand new along with weitec hicon gt's ( which are superb by the way :giggle: ). there is an optional centre arm rest for the vrs, but i fitted a leather 1 from a mk4 golf to mine but the mounting foot required some cutting to fit and i had to by the cover from skoda (prob easier to source a vrs foot n cover then fit the leather rest)

Should i just grab the radiator and give it a shake?? I stood on the side of the car and rocked the car when stopped and i couldnt get it to squeek again....................still the squeek is not as annoying as the blue led lights on the door handles!!!

The lighted handles were available on the L&K I think. You might have to take the door card off to get to the power connectors at the back.

Hmmm..... I'm thinking it must be an DIY job then because they are so distracting when driving at night. Might just put a dab of black paint on them or something, just so there is only i hint of blue, not lighting up the whole interior! haha

Sounds like a DIY job - factory ones would have been green and subtle.

I like the tape solution

Have a look in a scrappies for an armrest, they cost a fortune brand new from the dealers, over £100 for all the parts

Either get the door cards off and disconnect the wires for those LEDs or if you remove the headlight controls from the dash they've probably soldered some wires to the back of the dimmer control there.

To take the controls out, push the knob on the headlight switch in, turn it clockwise slightly then pull it out. The whole switch will come out then you can access the screws underneath that fasten the light control unit into the dash.

Also, what is this??

skoda1.jpg

its at the front driverside of the engine bay, its ticking intermittantly and loud and annoying

any help on what it is or if its normal??

cheers in advance

STOO

It's the evap system - it collects fumes from the fuel tank and pumps them back into the intake when the car is running.

The ticking is normal apparently but I've never noticed mine.

Excellent!!! What would you do without forums eh!

Now just too get all my squeeks and rattles under the car sorted!

I also need to make my mind up by tomorrow if i'm going to get one of these blue flame exhausts at the cheap price?? I've only had the car not even 24 hours and i'm having to think about things like that already!! LOL

Another question too.... What oil is best to use on the VRS? I have bottles of silkoline pro R in the garage from when i had my subaru and was thinking i could use it for the scooby. I think its 5w 30??

STOO

Have a look on the site sponsers - opie oils - for a list of what oils are ok for the car. Generally safest to go for something that says on the bottle that it meets the VAG spec for the VRS which I think is either 504 or 507 spec

Opie Oils

Blue Flame offer runs out next week I think and you won't get them that cheap anywhere for a while... bit like the Weitec coilovers offer last year which I'm still kicking myself for missing :wonder:
