18" Golf R32 Replicas on a Fabia?

Featured Replies

My inlaws have a Golf PD150 and the BSS Montreal 2's delacquered and corroded badly very quickly.

To sort this problem out my father in law bought a set of 18" R32 replicas and has had a whale of a time!

My mother in law however is not quite so happy.

She is petrified of driving anywhere after one tiny incident with a kerb mark led to 2 days of arguing, and she finds them too big and the ride too uncomfortable.

As a compromise it has been decided that the BSS will be refurbed and put back on for the summer as the father in law will then mostly be driving his competely rebuilt and cherished mark 1 Golf that only comes out for the (hopefully) dry months.

When this came up in conversation with myself it was asked if "they'd bolt straight on the Fabia wouldn't they?"

With a bank holiday at their house coming up is it a ridiculous idea to even consider a test fitting?

I would imagine the ride (which i consider already firm) and handling (relatively good for what it is) would go out the window and to boot with no suspension work the Fab would look ridiculous!

I feel it'd be interesting to see them fitted however i dont think I could leave them on there.

Do you mean Mk4?

A 3.2 V6 in a small hatch back in the 70's would have been ace :giggle:

hmmm kind of both i guess.

While it is a Mk4 Golf; it was the first R32 so is a Mk1 R32 - thread title changed to appease the pedants :)

Look like these to completly clarify things

Agreed though if i could get him to take out the 90bhp lump and stick in an R32 engine (or even a 1.8T) it'd be amazing!

I think, If you were to go with these wheels then stance would be the make or brake of them becuase if they sit to far in they'll look all spindley and thin..

But, if they stick out far enougth they'll look quite imposing.

Think Maserati GT coupe.. that car look utter pants when it had those odd reverse dish alloys.. then, towards the end of it's production it got proper wheels that stuck out a bit, and looked much better for it! shame they can't make a good looking car though..

How kind to compare my Fabia to a Maserati! :)

Didn't the Maser also get updated rear lights? Strange how cars get changed in parrallel.

Agree that wheels can completely change a cars look. I still think my 16" Spiders are a million time better than the standard 16" VRS alloys (and better than the 17"ers too) but that's another arguement completely.

If there's time and he's willing i'll see if a test change is on that cards

possible pictures to follow

Its gotta be worth putting them on, even just for comedy value if they do look stupid

Matt

they will bolt on yes!!

however im guessing the tires are something like 225/40/18??

fabia requires 215/35/18 tires so they wont fit due to tire size, also youll need coilovers or your fabia will look like a rolling skate ;)

Get em on there! :)

The ride will be harsh as fook!!! Espescially if you think it's fairly harsh already

it was cold.

it was wet.

i had no time.

i realised the tyres would be too big.

i knew it'd ruin the handling

i knew it'd look stupid

and frankly I couldn't be bothered :D

both my spiders and the R32's stayed where they were.

maybe if we do had home and they are already off i'll have a play but far to much effort just for a (flawed) experiment
