tdi pd 100 not accelerating

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, been a while since I've been on here and just got a 2001 fabia tdi pd 100 to get me to work (after waving good by to my loved 96 golf tdi). All seemed fine until i approach 80mph (when overtaking) then the power seems to eb away and the car doesn't accelerate as normal thereafter in any gears (or at any speed, even getting to 40 is a struggle) like its in limp mode or something. I pull over switch the engine off then start up again and everything goes back to normal. This doesn't happen all the time though. I've read about sticking turbos with dirty oil but didn't think that was with the pd 100 engine and noted a similar thread suggesting the MAF. The cars on 80K, full dealer history etc. If anyones got any ideas on cause and cost of fix i'd appreciate it. If it is the MAF, how much are these ballpark and is it easy DIY?

thanks

Leon

When was your last service?

Give it a full service it clears up the basic issue if it resolves the problem..

Oil inc filter

Air filter

Fuel filter

Check boost hoses

Timing belt last changed?

If its still the same could be:

Maf sensor, if your fuel consumption is down and yr down on power there is one one the air filter box and a MAP sensor on the intercooler that monitors boost pressure

Vacume leak split hose

Get a diagnostic done to be clear what the issue is?

Do the most obvious checks before a typical garage tells you its the turbo. £1000+ please

Similar thing happened to me and it was the MAF sensor. Cost me about 72quid from skoda onjline and it drives like normal. One test you could do is to disconnect the MAF and see how it drives.

Thanks for the replies, disconnected the maf this morning before driving to work, noticed a bit of a difference in that it seemed to be reving higher than normal to accelerate (like the clutch was slipping, its not though). And yep as i approached 70 and hit any incline seemed to loose speed, but wasn't as slow at accelerating as when the maf was connected when it happens. Im praying its not the turbo and doesn't happen all the time. It was last serviced at 76k and the cam belt was replaced last month. The MAF and the MAF Sensor are different things then I never knew that, so thanks again. I'll have to look into it.
