Steering Pump Drive Belt

Featured Replies

Has anybody changed the drive belt on the 2.5 TDi. I have a 2006 superb and yesterday my steering went hard. Looking in the engine bay, I can see the drive pulley and that the belt is loose...not sure if the belt is broke or that something else has happened (tensioner???).

Does the belt drive any other ancillaries....I have no warning lights come on???? I just read elsewhere on another forum that access was gained by removing loads of front end parts...radiator, bumper etc.....?????

The car is still under warranty as I only bought it in March ..... so should be able to get the dealer to do it...although living here in France, I am sure that is not going to be straightforward!!!

Any advice/thoughts would be welcome

Cheers

Not so sure, I think you'll find the belts aren't covered after 6 mths from 1st registration, it's a consumable item, fitting one on a V6 I'm not sure how, but if it's anything like the 1.9 you will possibly need some hex drives if there is another belt in front of it, if not you're in luck, it should be a simple case of noting which way it runs and leaning on the tensioner to let it off, and then fit new belt on.

Sounds like your tensioner rather than the belt, so that could be covered by the dealer with luck.

Thanks Supurbia,

Turns out it was the Pump....proved when the dealer unscrewed the cap off the resevoir which was empty and steaming!!!!! Funny how it went though....Was just sitting in traffic and heard a small noise and the steering went hard...my asumption that it was the belt was completey wrong...not a lot of visibility in the V6 engine bay! Luckily all covered in the dealers warranty!
