Scout Underside - Fuel Cooler

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I'm thinking about changing my Elegance for a Scout later this year, and am obsessing about it, as you do.

I found a rendering of the underside of the Scout on the Skoda Austria site @ http://www.skoda.at/modelle/octavia_combi/octavia_scout/highlights/technologie/

Two questions for owners:

1. Is there a fuel cooler on the drivers side, like the standard models. It's not shown on the graphic, and I'm wondering how the fuel return fuel is cooled if not.

2. I note the steel sump guard is omitted from the latest brouchure - can anyone confirm if it is fitted to current scouts?

And finally - black centred Proteus wheels are available in Austria - have a look at the catalogue @ http://www.skoda.at/modelle/octavia_combi/octavia_scout/daten_fakten/katalog_preisliste_technische_daten/ - very cool!

Les.

According to both the January and April brochures the Scout has a plastic sump guard.

Hmmm - good from a weight point of view, less good from a sump + boulder = Gulf of Mexico point of view...

The good news is the Mark 2 Octy is 1" higher than the Mark 1 and the Scout is higher again, so less need for the sump guard...

My 07/09 Brochure lists a plastic sump guard (carry over from 4x4 spec).

I checked yesterday and I can assure you mine has a metal sump guard. The under body protection is plastic, but the sump guard is steel.

It is a Nov 09 car.

Thanks - proper job - pleased to hear it.

Do you have a fuel cooler under the drivers door? I've noticed even on the standard car it is potentially prone to damage - mine has a couple of dented fins.

Will have to look. Would a TSI have one?

My 2008 Pre-FL Scout also has a full metal sump guard.

Mines the 2.0 PD 140 and it definately has the fuel cooler. It is surrounded by plastic panels but if something was to come in to contact with it it looks to me as though it will be easily dented / damaged.

Also those black centred Proteus alloys would look great on my Black Magic Scout...

Looks like the Scout retains the steel sump guard bith pre- and post-facelift. A good thing.

I like the black centred Proteus's - I see they are an option in the Czech republic too. I wonder if the MY2011 option is for black ones.

You may find the fuel cooler tougher than you think. Mine was hit at 70 MPH by a lorries load strap which shattered the plastic under tray and severely dented the cooler fins but no leaks
