Creaky Glovebox

Featured Replies

Hi

Picked up my new vRS a couple of weeks back and loving it so far.

However, I have one issue and its driving me insane! My glovebox creaks constantly at any speed.

Its not an issue with the things that are in it but the actual glove box itself. The lid creaks whilst driving and the only way to get it to stop is to put my hand where the handle is and pull it to the right. The lid is in tight so its not an issue with it being loose. When I open the box and push it about, the box itself is also creaky (in addition to the lid). Not explained this very well but hopefully you get the problem!

Any idea what I can do to fix this? As ridiculous as it sounds, it ruining the enjoyment of my new car.

Thanks

I had a similar issue but I found it was the side panel which is accessed when the door is open. iirc you push it towards the front of vehicle to release it from it's clips then the offending culprit which was the hot air duct can be greased up with silicon grease to sort it. Also having that panel off allows access to the back of the glove box to fiddle with. Hope that helps a little?

Thanks for the response.

The creak is definitely coming from the glove box. I can replicate it by pushing the lid either closed or open. It's not only the lid as it creaks if I push the underside of the glove box.

Might have to take it in under warranty. Dealer I bought it from is miles from me so gonna need take it to my local dealer. Are they likely to take it seriously seen as they didn't sell it to me and they will see it as a minor issue, although I don't! Understand that the warranty is from skoda so they will take a look but concerned that they will fob me off!

I also had a problem with a creaking lid on my Fabia vRS which i traced down to a missing rubber bump stop where the lid closes up to the glovebox so not being held tight enough against the catch.

Both still there on mine!

Might put some sticky rubber patches around the lid to make the lid close even more tightly!

It may seem odd, but loosen the screws under the glovebox slightly. I think there are 3 torx bolts in the footwell.

I have exactly the same problem and it appears to be getting worse, i,ve found that i can stop the noise for half hour or so by forcing the door towards the driver but unfortunately after that h30mins or so it must return to its original position. I'm gunna try those screws under glove tomorrow other than that the dealer can sort in 3000 miles (1st service).

Thought I had sorted it by placing 2 small rubber sticky pads in each corner (near the rubber plugs) so that the lid would close REALLY tightly but driving home from work today its started up again!

As I said before, the issue isn't with the lid being loose but I had hoped that giving it no space to move at all would fix but unfortunately not!!!

If anyone has a definitive solution please post ASAP as I fear I am loosing the will to live.

Mine has started after getting a car kit fitted, I spend all day in the car.........its driving me nuts !!

I feel your pain!

My 55 plate has a glovebox squeak in cold weather - I think it's the silver trim above the handle as pressing that quite firmly seems to stop it. I had the entire glovebox out when replacing the stereo and no amount of fettling has fixed it.

Car is now going in on Monday to sort the squeak.

Have now found a second squeak / creak coming from the passenger side door handle (the plastic one that u use to close the door). It squeaks when I'm driving on any road that's not 100% flat!

Has anyone else found this? The plastic on the doors is the only part of the car that doesnt seem great quality.

I know I'm being fussy bast@rd with these noises but its really frustrating.

In your ears :giggle:

Only joking. My glovebox has started doing this as well, but only on rubbish roads.

I've also got a weird buzzing noise from somewhere on the driver's seatbelt column – so in my right ear all the time. It's like a wasp that I can't swat. I'm going to spread some jam on the area and see if it draws the little bar steward out :D

I also have the wasp in my right ear!!!! It drives me nuts. I actually think it's coming from the rear door somewhere. Try opening the rear drivers side window a touch as this sometimes seems to help me.

I've pushed / pulled / tapped / fettled / adjusted everything I can but it won't go away!!!!

Now that I've read this thread I feel I also may have glovebox creak. Heard a new creak rattle yesterday driving home that I fixed by pushing the glovebox door firmly shut. (I had put some paperwork in the glovebox earlier so maybe the door wasn't shut).

My creak obsession is crossing over to my bicycle as well! I cycle to work 3 or 4 times a week and if my drivetrain isn't silent it upsets me. Think I need a holiday.

Apparently Teflon Spray is highly recommended.. :giggle:

Had similar issue and found the cause was same as Rich453 in Post #2.

Pushing the glovebox directly changed or stopped the squeak - but the issue was the side access panel.

I've solved it once or twice with new clips and reseating the ducts but it always comesn back in a matter on f months, weeks or days.

Anyone who comes up with a good fix for this would be my saviour!!!

Cars gone in for a scratch to be sorted that was present when I picked it up and they are also going to sort the various creaks and squeaks. Not convinced that ill be happy with it when it comes back but may as well get them to check and see what they can do!
