help please cant shut tailgate (mk2 elegance estate)

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Can anybody help? Tried to close my tailgate yesterday to find the locking mechanisim in the tailgate stuck in the locked position which is preventing the boot lid from closing

Central locking button, keyfob and the release button on the tailgate all have no effect sadly. Should say that its used as a taxi, so gets plenty of use.

Any info on possible causes would be greatly appreciated.

many thanks.

The central locking etc just prevents the rubber switch to activate . Try pressing the rubber tailgate switch as if you were opening it

Get a screwdriver into the lock on the tailgate and leaver it back into the open position, look at the lock and you will see a small tab below the longer catch try to press this at the same time and it should re open, its happened a few times on a few of the other cabs on the rank i sorted them all once open give a squish of wd40

Check that the plastic cover around the catch on the boot body has not come loose as this will also stop it from closing, if it has just remove it
