Todays little bits

Featured Replies

Decided to tidy up behind the plate today, rather than having wonky holes decided to go for one big one.... angle grinder and a file...came out pretty well i think, will be hidden by the plate and only taken off for track etc so not majorly fussed, may even try a smaller plate offset and open it up a bit more...

Mapping on monday

Pretty good idea. Best idea ive ever seen was a guy with an s4 2.7 bi-turbo, had it running 500+bhp and the front plate was cut out perfectly where the letters would be leaving a stencil-like plate for the air to pass through but the letters still looked right with the black / darkness behind them, maybe worth a try but would take ages to get the plate perfect.

Looks cracking on those wheels to mate, nice car.

i know the one your talking about, was cut on a machine using a cad programme, may give it a go sometime ;)

Surely by doing that, your reg couldn't have any "whole" or "unbroken" charecters in, if you see what I mean. Like a 0, where the inside would have to be white still. But would remain unsupported. I.E a plate like CV53 SFW (random made up plate) would be ok, but not say OV03 ARD (again made up) ahh I know what I mean!!!!

My girlfriend has been making these for a number of years now. Even done a few for MTM the Audi Tuner, so could have been one of her plates on the S4 :)

The trick is to get friendly with a number plate supplier and try to buy a blank plate, as it without any numbers or backing on, and then just the backing seperate. She then cuts them out on a laser cutter and sticks them together. (You cant do it to one thats already stuck together im told, turns out a right mess, lol).

Not the greatest pic but you can just about make it out on this Corrado turbo. One she made earlier so to speak:

For the letters like O, R, Q etc, she just cuts them out in a "stencil" manner. Then just a black permenent pen to collour in the gaps :)

Shame about that gasket...

That would be the case then mate, it was MTM that did the plate for the guy i think. His car was down there getting turbos etc. Its a cracking idea.
