I have now done 700 miles in my new 1.8 DSG Elegance and I must say that compared to my previous Alfa Romeos, the Octavia is absolutely fantastic to drive, smooth and quite, and I hope I never need to go back to a manual diesel car again.

In fact the car is so quite, especially when the SD card is loading up in the mornings, that I have started to hear a very faint whistle or whine which I think is happening when during gear changes. It doesn't sound serious and you would never usually hear it with the radio on but I was wondering if this is normal or something that I should get looked at, any ideas?

I think it's the turbo, I get it on mine too.

I don't think it's anything to worry about, unless someone on here can provide information to the contrary.

Turbo sounds right, perhaps you could try driving past a brick wall or something similar with the window down and gently accelerate/decelerate the car from low revs, you might be able to hear this whistling noise better. If that is what you are hearing it is definitely the turbo just speeding up and slowing down as it is supposed to do.
