bolt size

Featured Replies

Hey,

Anyone can please tell the bolt size on the skoda fav engine head ? all of them.. What other tools I need to replace a head gasket?

10mm hex head socket, no idea on length/thread of headbolts but jorily.com sells them.

yes 10mm hex (allen key) and 13mm across the front.

only other thing you will need is a screwdriver for the hose clips and a torque wrench really.

oh and an 11mm to reset the tappets

What do you think can a damaged gasket cause water splashes come out of oil filling hole when the cap open? The coolant loss from reserve tank is quite noticeable. Checked all the spark plug holes and no water came out, plus there is no sign of white smoke. Is there danger that if I open the head myself I'll make more damage (first time I do it)?

Checking the expansion tank, tank cap, radiators, hoses, thermostat, and water pump thoroughly would be the first thing I would do before lopping a head off. You can get little oil splashes coming out of the oil filler with the cap removed while running.

Are you getting any build-up (like mayonnaise) under the oil filler cap, or is there any similar signs on the dipstick/does the oil look like chocolate milkshake? If there are none of these signs I wouldn't be rushing to take the head off.

The cylinder head on a Favorit is relatively easy to take off and replace compared to many other cars, but probably not a job for a complete DIY novice. Care does need to be taken particularly to ensure the cylinder liners aren't disturbed. The worst thing that will happen on a Favorit engine is probably having to deal with seized/rusted nuts etc.

There is a lot of mayonnaise on the cap, but the oil stick looks clean of water. I read the Haynse manual so I understood more or less about not disturbing the liners, but maybe there are other things worth mentioning? Meanwhile I opened the rocker gear case, there is some mayonnaise and and water signs inside... Go for it? Replacing the gasket can help?
