Roof Bars for 07 Estate

Featured Replies

Hi

I need to fit a roof box for camping - what roofbars do Octavia Estate owners use?

Honest John website says it's easy to damage the car when fitting Skoda bars. Does this apply for all makes or just the genuine Skoda ones?

Thanks

Hi - I've had no problems with Atera products:

Have a look at http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/127968-cycle-carrier-roofrack-for-estate/

I've since replace the steel bars with an aluminium section, to give enough width for a roof box and a cycle carrier. I have a Thule Atlantic 780 box.

I use www.roofbox.co.uk which is excellent on compatibility etc.

Thanks for speedy reply! Your link hopefully answered my next question which was the MPG penalty. Hopefully a bit less for a roofbox than a pair of bikes.

It's difficult to say the precise penalty for the box alone. My 2.0 TDI normally manages upper 40s mpg for a decent run - normally 47ish on the Maxidot. With the roofbox -

and loaded to the gunnels with camping stuff too, it can struggle to make 40 mpg. That said often that's included bad traffic. Still not disasterous - and I'm usually in a hurry.

Load of rubbish about genuin bars causing damage, I've had bikes, roof boxes, IKEA flat packs building materials on my bars and there is no damage to car ,

the tool you get with the bars means you can't over tighten the clamps .

The genuine bars are Thule 120mm, aren't they, with approriate feet? At least that's what I'm getting this weekend (as well as a rear hatch bike carrier - the rooftop fork mounts are too expensive, although you can race your Octy with them mounted - see here).

I've had an Atlantis 780 for my Outback for a couple of years, and the handling/wind noise/ecomnomy impact was minimal. Hoping it's the same on the Scout.
