Take the cartridge out, check the disks are clean and then blow some compressed air into the changer unit, you probably have some dust/dirty on the lens.

The changer could be full of dust, or you have put a CD in the wrong way round.

As well as dust, can be caused by sudden change in temperature and/or humidity around the disc. Often clears itself after a time although 'home' copies seem to be more problematic .

Let's take bets on what it is…

I reckon it's just a dirty disc :smirk:

Turn your CDs around, they are facing the wrong way so the laser is trying to read the picture side of the disc.

I agree totally. You could get other messages such as Mechanic too. Happens with copy disks burnt at high speed. Seems to settle down after a while so maybe the there is some sort of adaptive control.

Or a road bump whilst the stacker's changing discs can throw Surface or Mechanic errors. In these cases pull the magazine, reseat the CDs in it, and refit.

Essentially, the CD changer sucks! Mine is in my cupboard.

It always had a nack of stopping working just as you go on the motorway for a long drive! It also annoyed me that you have to pre-plan you music taste for the whole journey.

Glad I made the move to iPod, even though I hate everything Apple! I have 20GB of music at the press of a button now.
