Broken Xenon brackets

Featured Replies

04 vRS in for MOT, and the garage have said that the brackets underneath one of the headlights has broken, so it's too loose to pass the MOT. It's a fairly eye-watering bill.

I wasn't really expecting the headlight to fail after 6 years (and the dealer seemed suprised, too). Anyone got any idea how long I should expect one to last, and how much a replacement might cost.

If you feel up to it source a standard headlight, Gut the thing and transfer the innards of your existing headlight to the new lamp! All Fabia headlight bodies are the same, Just different internals!

How Much is gonna cost? i too have an 04 plate with xenons (factory fit), not aware of any issues with mine yet, but now i think its time to have a look!

My MOT is due very soon!

Has It had a bump at anytime?

£55 on eBay I think. Can be fitted by a monkey so don't let the garage do it.

I had the same problem last week, found somewhere sturdy on the unit at the top and screwed through the bit of black metal that runs the width of the car under the front of the bonnett, tightened it up until it didn't wiggle anymore and it passed it's MOT.

So that's a nice quick fix if you don't have the money or time to get a new unit.

Hope that helps. I can get a picture for you if you want. Gonna be a whatsapp or mms job though cause photobucket don't like iPhone.

Had a teeny tiny bump a few years ago. Can't see it causing the problem.

Not thought about replacing the innards of a standard unit - would that work? It's a bumper off job, too - any idea how complex that is?

So far, so good. Got half the bumper off and detached the headlight from the remaining mount. Any tips on removing the wiring plug form the headlight? It is just pull, and pull some more?

Edit: got it. The little clip had bunged up with muck.

Three of four mounts broken, looks like someone has hit the light at some point and that's what's caused the problem. Trying glue with not much hope, will be attempting the light swap early in the week when it doesn't work!

Take one second hand unit, bake at gas mark 1 for 10 mins. Pull to separate the two sections.

Tomorrow I repeat with the xenon and try to make one complete unit from the two.

And when it's all done and dusted, You can buy me a beer for saving you a shed load of cashemoticon-0140-rofl.gif

All good so far. Now got a single xenon from an broken one and a standard unit. The front isn't on quite as nicely as I'd have liked, but it's on. There was one difference in the body of the unit - the xenon has a cable coming back out of the unit just above the main plug. There's a blanking plate above it, but it needed drilling round the edges and cutting out with a knife.

Just waiting for the retest on Friday morning.

Straight through the MOT. Thanks for the pointers.
