I have a 2.5 tdi auto and yesterday a warning flahed up on the dash "emmissions workshop", the manual only says go to dealership, can anyone please explain what the problem could be and what possible solution there is?

i have just located and am in the process of selling this car to buy another, so heavy expense is not something i wish to have at this moment.

Had the car scanned, was going to go to dealership but they said they could not do it until friday but leave the car with them and they may get round to it by then, yes right, so i found a mobile independant, he checked the codes and has found out it is the egr valve, just waiting for him to price the valve and then come and fit it.

I know a new egr valve from VW was quoted to me as £170 for a 1.9TDi. No idea if it's the same part though.

just had the car done, typical parts supplier sent the wrong egr valve, so my mechanic stripped and cleaned the old one and it is now working fine
