Allard VT5 Vs Turbo Dynamcs stage 2

Featured Replies

Hey guys.

I'm torn between these two turbos for my upgrade.

Was gonna go down the route of GTB2260VK but the cost of a manifold + custom oil lines, custom air bits where mounting up!

I understand that TD2 is GT20 internals, but how about the VT5?

I've emailed Allard countless times about their turbos, but to no avail.

Anyone know anything about them?

What would you buy?

I currenltey have a VT2, which I need new oil seals on.

I can either send it to TD for an upgrade to a TD2 for £600, or get it fixed, sell it, then buy an VT5 outright for a bit over a K...........What would you do?

get your current VT2 serviced and carry on down the GTB2260VK route

I have blown a VT5, so they are not infallible.

The VT5 is essentially a VNT20, which immediately gives it an advantage over the TD2 - Also, the internals of the VT5 are most likely VNT22 based anyway else it would be a "stock" turbo. In comparison to my VT5 I am amazed at how well the 2260vk performs though, considering it is entirely stock.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Jason, one of the other reasons I'm worried about fitting a GTB2260VK is the whole mapping issues.

I've been reading other threads on other forums, about people who install new bigger turbos, then the cars won't map properly.............I.E. They request 1.6 bar of boost, fine........anything over, and boom, it's over boosted to 2.5 bar!

On the other side, too little fuel, and bang compressor surge...............

I heard that on standard injectors anything over 230 bhp is impossible, and I wanted to keep standard injectors (At least till next year)..........

Having been using a 2260 in various guises INCLUDING running for about 3 weeks on my old VT5 remap ;) I can say it wouldn't be a problem in the short term. I was actually really impressed how on the VT5 mapping the 2260 worked quite well, and sat exactly on the same boost point the VT5 used to.

In fact my "in-car acceleration" video in my sig was done with the car still on VT5 mapping, and that was fast enough. ;)

Whose map are you currently running Jason?

Having seen first-hand with Shifty's old motor, I can safely say that getting a map by someone who absolutely & totally knows what they're doing is vital :o

The before and after difference once a Mr Washbrook visit had been undertaken had to be seen to be believed :D

Cheers,

Steve

I have a trial map at the moment, for testing purposes, from someone abroad who "knows what they are doing" - It is awesome even now! ;)

That's good to hear - I wasn't expecting anything less :)

Well I'm sure you'll reveal more when you progress beyond trial :D

It will probably progress to a 2.4 bar sustained boost map. The new turbo can take it, and loves it! ;)

i Know your VT5 is't the same as my CR hybrid, but how does the new turbo compare low down? do you think you've lost much if any torque at lower revs?
