Engine swopout for used/recon engine?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Im having some problems with my Fabia 1.4 16v engine and have been considering getting it swopped out for either a used engine with lower mileage or perhaps a reconditioned engine.

I haven't had my motor looked at yet so it may not yet be needed, but all the same I thought I would enquire on these boards to see what recommendations you guys have.

Best Regards

Paul

i recommend you get a mechanic to look at your problem 1st and proceed from there..

Thanks, thats certainly my plan.

The reason Im thinking of getting a recon/used engine is because I dont want to spend hundreds of pounds putting right one issue with my engine only to have something else go wrong.

I'd certainly keep away from a used 1.4 16v, that could be a huge can of worms!

Unfortunately, the earlier 1.4 16v lumps aren't that brilliant.. with piston rings killing quite a few off as the cost of the car start dipping down below a grand.

If you've got the later engine and it's toast than another used engine may be ok.. but it your running one of the earlier ones, and replace it with a used earlier one, you could well find your self still with problems..

A reconditioned unit might be the safer option if it comes with a warranty?

What's actually wrong with the engine you have? Seems your looking at an extreme fix for an issue that you can't be sure of yet.. unless your a mechanic??
