Top Suspension Bush

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I've been reading this forum now for a year or so ever since buying my Octavia, I have a question that I hope some helpful person could answer.

I have an 03 plate Octavia 1.9TDI ( 130bhp) laurent and klement.

Today it failed its MOT with a " nearside front ( topbush ) Shock absorber has an excessively worn rubber bush " the suspension has felt a bit loose and I have felt/heard knocking sounds when going over pot holes etc.

I was qouted £138 to do the work. £32 for the part and the rest for labour. I feel this is really high.

I am thinking of doing the work myself, I have worked on an old volvo 850 I used to have, so I'm not a total mechanic virgin.

Has anyone done this before ? if so is it straight forward ?

Also was the garage having a laugh with the ammount quoted ?

Any help/Advice would be greatly appeciated.

Thanks in advance.

Marc.

I got an advisory for this on my last MoT but obviously the movement wasn't excessive. I was thinking about changing it when I next service the car.

The front is a bit more tricky than the rear as I believe as you will need to remove the spring to take the shock out. So you'll need some spring compressors.

Watched my mate do mine recently

Hub spreader/splitter needed and spring compressor

Other than that looked dead easy really
