Just had my Octi VRS TD serviced today and noticed from the invoice that the oil they used was not the longlife stuff. They've put in Quantum Platinum 10/40 which suggests good for fixed service, well im on variable. Can anyone tell me how important this ??? Also after paying £165 for a glorified oil change today dont think its too much to ask that the dealer at the very least gets the right stuff in the sump.

If your car is set to longlife i.e QG1 it should have longlife oil in cos if it is set to longlife/QG1 then that engine could go to 18000 miles and i wouldnt want my engine doing 18k on 10/40. Basicaly there are 3 settings you can have and here goes. QG0 = fixed service intervals (10k or a year) using 10/40 oil. QG1 = variable service intervals meaning the car could do 18 k between services. QG2 is fixed oil using again 10/40 but everything else on the car is variable. If your car is set to variable (QG1 )get it changed!!!!!!!

Yes definately set to variable as invoice states on first service it had, Vehicle used as a Private Hire Taxi which i would think even more reason to have the right stuff, however only managed 12600 miles between first 2 services before car needing this service.

sorry to hijack the thread, i am a bit confused by this fixed or varible servicing, just bought a vrs and its just had a service 500 miles ago 58500k, checked the display and it said 600 or so days and 9500k its says in the service book its on display service, is it on fixed or varible ?

A PD170 should always have 507 spec 5W30 irrespective of which service schedule its on. Get it changed.

It's on fixed. Fixed is 10k miles. Variable is 18,600 miles, providing the oil quality (just measured by the rate at which it cools I think) remains within tolerance.

Regardless of if it is on fixed or variable, a PD170 must use the 5w-30 VW507 oil as it has a DPF.

Other oils do not pass the low ash tests that are part of the VW507 standard and will potentially cause you DPF problems.

Go back and get it changed.

Cheers for the advice amazing though how a large multi franchised main dealer could get it so wrong !!!

how many people must file the invoice without even checking, were paying these jokers £65 plus an hour which is basically more than a NHS hospital surgeon.
